"RG1911CU "Mad Scientist": A Fascinating Frame Design! RIGARDS' New Standard"

Originally known for its iconic buffalo horn frames, RIGARDS has been expanding its metal frame series in recent years.

Among them, the RG1911CU "Mad Scientist" has established itself as the new standard for RIGARDS with its distinctive and mysterious frame design featuring a 3.6cm-wide round lens layered with a smaller clip-on frame.

For this season, we have received a stock of the RG1911CU models ahead of the 23-24AW collection, and all colors of the RG1911CU are now available!

Exploring New Territory with the Clip-on Frame: RIGARDS x ZIGGY CHEN's "Mad Scientist"

The "Mad Scientist" collaboration with ZIGGY CHEN offers two types of frames: titanium frame and copper frame.

The delivery we received this time is the copper frame type, similar to the original "Mad Scientist".

In addition, the Chalk White color, which was previously available in other models, is now also included in the lineup!

On the other hand, the Jasper color, which was available in the previous season, is no longer in stock. So, if you really want the Jasper color, I recommend getting it as soon as possible!

Now, the "Mad Scientist" can be considered as the iconic clip-on type round frame for RIGARDS. It was initially met with hesitation due to its innovative design, but now it has become one of the stable models sold in our store.

Having worked at a RIGARDS retailer for about 10 years, I initially associated RIGARDS with horn frames, so the introduction of clip-on eyewear was quite innovative.

One of the key features of the "Mad Scientist" is worth mentioning.

While it has become common for RIGARDS eyewear to feature clip-on frames, typically the clip-on frame is adhesively attached to the main frame, making it impossible to replace the lenses.

However, in the case of the "Mad Scientist," the clip-on frame is screw-mounted, allowing for lens replacement. This means you can change the color and prescription of the clip-on lenses to match the main frame lenses.

Personally, I have been using the Gold color of the copper frame RG1911CU, and I replaced the clip-on lenses with gradient lenses in shades of red.

If you prefer non-prescription color lenses, you can easily have them replaced at a nearby eyewear store for around 3,000 yen. It's recommended to change the lens color or light transmission to match the frame color!

Multiple intermediate colors like grayish and dalton that blend well with the skin.

-Disadvantages-

Temple parts that come in contact with the skin have titanium inserts, resulting in a slight difference in color compared to the main frame.

Slightly heavier compared to titanium frames.

What do you think?

Personally, I find the appeal of RIGARDS lies in the ability to enjoy the aging process of metal, even if it comes with some weight. Therefore, I recommend the Copper frame.

However, considering not only fashionability but also everyday use, titanium frames have their own charm.
